Get ready for the September Electronics Recycling Event

Updated: Sep 9, 2022

NOTE: This blog entry reflects last year's E-cycle Event in 2021.

No Scrap Metal will be accepted at the 2022 E-cycle Event .

The Monongalia County Solid Waste Authority, in partnership with PC Renewal,

will hold an Electronics (E-cycle) Event on September 25th from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm at Sam’s Club, UTC. This is another terrific opportunity for Monongalia County residents to properly recycle and dispose of their electronics. E-cycling your old or replaced electronics keeps hazardous materials out of the environment, provides space for non-recyclable items at the landfill, extends the life of the landfill, and it keeps manufactures from using virgin materials. Prior to the event, it is important to share the steps to prepare and learn what to expect at the event by reviewing the list of accepted items, how to prepare your items, what to expect at the event, note specific items not accepted and where to find more information.

Steps to Take to Prepare for the E-cycle Event

The first step is to review the list of accepted items on our website at www.monongaliacountyswa.com because there are many accepted items that may surprise you like car batteries, bicycles, Christmas lights and lawn mowers. If you are not sure if your item will be accepted review the Do not accept column or email us at moncountyswa@gmail.com with a photo of your item or use the Contact Us button on our website. Next step is to remove all packaging including plastic, cardboard, instruction manuals, CDs and remove from boxes. Remove broken glass from printers and scanners and the glass plates from microwaves. To recycle a lawn mower the oil and gas must be removed.

What to Expect at the Event

There will be volunteers and staff to greet and guide you through the line. Please remain in your vehicles at all times and leave your pet at home for the safety of volunteers, and staff. Volunteers and staff will unload your vehicle. Please be patient while waiting in line. We will move the line along as quickly as possible, but safety is our top priority.

Items Not Accepted

There is a list of items not accepted on our website however, we wish to remind residents that no televisions (TVs) of any kind will be accepted. CRT (Cathode ray tube)

monitors will not be accepted. CRT monitors are the older models with the big tube in the back. Items containing freon, for example air conditioners and refrigerators, will not be accepted. Contact us if you are not sure if your item will be accepted.
